In Conversation with Deb Richardson-Moore

May 29 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Riley Masterson has moved to the vibrant city of Greenbrier, SC, anxious to escape the chaos that has overwhelmed her life. Questioned in a murder in Alabama, she has spent eighteen months under suspicion by a sheriff’s office unable to make an arrest. But things in gentrifying Greenbrier are not as they seem. Her cousin has an ulterior motive for inviting Riley into her home, and pieces of Riley’s past shadow her. As she struggles to forge a new life, forces are gathering in the tension-plagued neighborhood where glitzy new homes rise alongside crumbling mill houses and homeless encampments. When murder inevitably explodes, someone unexpected is caught in the crossfire. Detectives are left to ponder: Are the murders personal or the result of rich and poor living in such close proximity? And will Riley take the blame as someone has so meticulously planned?

Deb Richardson-Moore retired in 2020 after a 15-year career as pastor of Triune Mercy Center. Triune is a church that ministers among Greenville’s homeless citizens, inviting them to serve each other as they meet with social workers to address issues of addiction, mental health, joblessness and lack of shelter. For her efforts, she was named Leadership Greenville’s Distinguished Alumna in 2017, and Humanitarian of the Year in 2020 by United Housing Connections. Furman University awarded her an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 2021. Deb is a graduate of Wake Forest University and Erskine Theological Seminary. Before coming to the ministry, she was a reporter for The Greenville News. She is the author of six books, including the recently released murder mystery, Through Any Window, which is set in a gentrifying neighborhood. Her other books include a memoir, The Weight of Mercy, about her early years at Triune, and the mysteries The Cantaloupe Thief, The Cover Story, Death of a Jester, and Murder, Forgotten. She and her husband, Vince, are the parents of three grown children.
