About the Book: In 1938, Baltimore businessman Joseph Cambria funded the construction of a new minor league baseball park in Greenville, South Carolina. It became known as Meadowbrook Park, and for the next 34 years, it was home to a scrapbook full of sacred baseball memories, including the day Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig came to town, a legendary tape-measure homerun hit by Ted Williams, and a game in which Mickey Mantle went five for five and signed hundreds of autogrpahs for local fans. An impressive list of more than 40 Hall of Famers appeared at the historic park.

Meadowbrook’s professional teams were the Spinners, Braves, Mets, Red Sox and Rangers. Nearly a hubdred players from these teams played in the major leagues. But Meadowbrook was more than just a hometown ballpark with a record of famous baseball players who passed through the gates. It was a home field for area high school, American Legion and Negro League teams, and a birthplace for childhood dreams. It is a landmark for local baseball folklore and an integral part of the city’s distinguished baseball history. This book uses engaging biographical stories to ressurect the memory of a treasured old ballpark. It is a must-read for baseball fans of all ages.
