ABOUT THE BOOK
Finalist in the 2022 International Book Awards, WHATEVER HAPPENS, PROBABLY WILL serves up eighteen remarkable short stories, woven together in the recognition that the truly powerful things that happen to us all come from the everyday and the familiar– only to slide sideways to the deeper end of our experience, and sometimes our imagination. The book includes a number of Southern award-winners, including “The Man Inside” (Finalist in both the Coker Fiction Fellowship and the Excellence in Southern Lowcountry Writing competitions); “Duke’s” (named a “Best of 2019 Short Story”); and “Three Buses” (winner of the 2021 Amy Munnell Prize).
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Called a “modern master of the short story,” MacIlroy’s work has been featured on Alabama Pulic Radio, iHeart Radio’s “Unplugged and Totally Uncut” with Arroe Collins, “Sports By-line USA,” and “The Bladcast.” His first (co-authored) book of “mostly true” stories of a zany and slightly mis-spent boyhood (“Not Exactly Rocket Scientists and Other Stories”) was called “a great book about friendship” by Pat Conroy, and he has been a featured writer at the Pat Conroy Literary Center.
